HTC Desire HD – Read Complete Review

HTC Desire HD is one of the best handset from HTC. Also it is among the first Android phone to exhibit whopping display of 4.3 inches. This phone reached the UK market in October 2010 and still is highly revered and sought after gadget. The phone was so successful that there has several replicas which have been brought out by the HTC itself in the shape of Inspire 4G a and Thunderbolt. The features and looks present in this Android handset can suffice the needs of all the tech freaks.

Design

HTC Desire HD is designed in a more distinct manner as opposed to earlier HTC offerings. The ergonomically designed handset is carved out from the single piece that too anodised aluminium giving out the royal feel. The overall dimensions of the phone are 123 x 68 x 11.8 mm and weight of 164 grams. Though, it might look big but it is comfortable to hold in hands.

There is removal of external keys with infusion of the touch sensitive ones. At the back of the phone there is huge 8MP camera with dual LED flash placed on its left and speaker on the right. There is no shutter key to capture picture giving the sole option of touch sensitive one. Also there is no protection for the lens making it vulnerable to scratches. On the left rim of the phone there is volume controls and on the top there is power on and off button.

Display and Camera-

HTC Desire HD has replaced the AMOLED screen in support of LCD Capacitive touchscren of 4.3 inches. The pictures produced on this huge display support 16 million colours and are bright with resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Though, there are evident difference between Capacitive and AMOLED display. The display is rendered with all the sensors like accelerometer and proximity sensors.

On the camera front there is huge 8MP camera with resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. Overall the quality of the pictures captured is quite decent but it can’t be said as the best smartphone for capturing high clarity images.

Lack of the dedicated camera shutter also spoils the mood. There are several in built settings present in the snapper which can be utilized to enhance the pictures. These include contrast, sharpness, ISO and White Balance etc. Other features includes Geo tagging, auto focus which allows you to simply shoot as object is automatically focused
Video recording is done in HD as the name implies at 720p@25fps. The videos recorded are saved in the format of 3GP.

Interface

HTC Desire HD is operating on the Android 2.2 and consists more refined HTC Sense UI. This gives you plenty of widgets and around 7 home screens to play around with. The user interface is highly responsive gives you full control over your handset to customise it according to your needs using the Scene option. You also view the entire seven home screens in thumbnail formats through feature called Leap.

There are three buttons on the main home screen which are Drawer, Phone and personalize. With personalize you can customize alarm clock, wallpaper,widgets, folders and ringtones with a single click. Also with notification bar on the top you can navigate through the most visited apps with ease.

There are whole lot of apps which are present in the phone like Adobe reader for .PDF file, document editor to read edit Excel and Word Documents, social networking, music player, organiser and emails.

DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) allows you to stream the images, videos and music from your phone to any other multimedia device like TV. With Friend stream you can aggregate all your facebook and Twitter friends at one place. Flashlight on the main menu allows you to adjust the brightness level.

Other important apps include eBook reader, News, weather, stocks and many more.

Connectivity

HTC desire HD is a high end smartphone with all the connectivity features intact. It boasts of GPRS, EDGE,3G and Wi-Fi to give seamless access to Web. The Web Kit browser gives smooth browsing experience with multi touch support for zooming in and out.
On the messaging front all the services like POP3, IMAP( email clients) are supported. Also basics like SMS, MMS and EMS are also supported. Instant messaging includes Google talk while others can also be included.

You can find your way with GPS and Google Maps. The phone has both 2G and 3G network frequency for wider coverage.

Processor and Memory

HTC Desire HD is power driven by Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1GHz processor making it faster than its earlier counterparts. The smartphone is embedded with 768 MB of RAM. Internal memory of the phone is 1.5 GB which can be expanded to 32GB with micro card slot. 8GB of memory card has already been included in the device.

Music and Video Player

The music player is much more advanced and improved. It features equalizers and visual effects. For the better audio quality there is Dolby Mobile and SRS enhancement. It supports audio formats like MP3, eAAC+ and WAV. Vide player is basic and supports DivX/XviD files.

Battery

The standard battery of the phone is Li-Ion 1230 mAh. It renders standby time of 490 hours in 2G and 420 hours in 3G. On the other hand talk time is 9 hours in 2G and 5hours in 3G. On heavy usage it lasts only for 24 hours.

Verdict

HTC Desire HD is a great phone with superior functionalities, improved HTC Sense UI and elegant looks. Though, it is bigger in size but poses no problem in holding and carrying around in hands. The huge screen makes the viewing experience simply marvellous. In short it is powerful
